FUEL provided by Olympic Petroleum

1. Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)

Also known as Super, it’s a product derived from crude and used as fuel in internal combustion engines. Premium gives greater power to the vehicle, improves mileage and reduces maintenance costs and emissions.

The PMS marketed by Olympic Petroleum conforms to the following critical parameters as set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards;

.It must have a density @15 degrees centigrade Kg/mof 780 maximum

.It must have Research Octane number of 91 minimum and Sulphur content of 0.15% maximum

2. Automotive Gas oil (AGO)

Also known as diesel, automotive gas oil is ideal for road vehicles (trucks, buses, vans, and cars) powered by diesel engines. It can also be used to power generators.

The critical parameters set out by the Kenya Bureau of Standards for diesel sold in Kenya are as below:

.AGO must have a densiy @ 20 degrees centigrade in Kg/m3 of between 820-870

.Have Cetane index of 48 minimum and Sulphur content of 0.5% maximum.

3. Illuminating Kerosene (IK)

Illuminating Kerosene (paraffin) is a combustible liquid commonly used as heating fuel and domestically for cooking and lighting. It has several industrial uses for example it is widely used as a solvent.

The following are the parameters set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards for Kerosene sold in Kenya;

.It must have a density @ 20 degrees centigrade Kg/m3 of 817 maximum

.Sulphur content of 0.15% maximum.

4. LPG (Liquefied petroleum Gas)

LPG is recovered from “wet” natural gas (gas with condensable heavy petroleum compounds) by absorption. The recovered product has a low boiling point and must be distilled to remove the lighter fractions and then be treated to remove hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and water. The finished product is transported by pipeline.

LPG reaches the domestic consumer in cylinders under relatively low pressures. The largest part of the LPG produced is used in central heating systems and the next largest as raw material for chemical plants; LPG is also used as an engine fuel.

5. Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO)

Heavy Fuel is the residual product that remains after refining crude oil. HFO is used in heaters, boilers, furnaces, kilns and power generators.

HFO sold in Kenya must meet the following critical parameters:

.Kinematic viscosity @ 500C of 180 cst maximum, pour point of 270C maximum, sulphur content of 2.3% maximum and a net calorific value of 41MJ/kg minimum.

6. Industrial Diesel Oil (IDO)

IDO is a blend of diesel and heavy fuel oil and is mainly used for heating, generating power and water/steam boilers in small industrial and hospitality applications.

IDO sold in Kenya must meet the following critical parameters:

.Kinematic viscosity @ 400C of 10 cst maximum, pour point of 150C maximum, sulphur content of 1.8% maximum and a gross calorific value of 44.8MJ/kg minimum.
